Community Service

Summer sewing sessions at Boys & Girls Club are scheduled for June 17-20 and July 8-11, 2024. Morning classes are 9:00-12:00. There will also be a workday for volunteers on June 5. The children are excited to learn and/or advance their skills at machine and hand sewing. The first day project is a star shaped pillow. Then they will advance to completing a small quilt from 10-inch squares with a border, stitched together with batting and backing, turned and hand tied. Children are third grade or older.

Volunteers are needed to guide the learners to complete their projects. Class is limited in number based on the volunteers available. This year all volunteers must complete a background check prior to working with children which can be completed online https://form.jotform.com/240315762121142 or return it to the Boys & Girls Club office, 315 N Denton St, Gainesville, TX 76240

There will be a workday Wednesday, June 5 starting at 10:30. The purpose is to check machines, set up and review plans.

Contact Margret Lopez at 940-368-1386 for more information and to sign up.

Medal of Honor Quilts- given to Military Medal of Honor Recipients in gratitude for those who have served their country.

Day1 Bags - This year marks the 3rd annual "Adopt a 2022 High School Senior from Foster Care" campaign in Texas.  Day1 Bags will honor and gift a hand-made twin-size quilt set (blanket and pillowcase) made for each CPS foster youth graduating this Class of 2022.  For Texas, we have 622 seniors graduating. Due to privacy issues mandated by CPS, we do not know what county they live in, their names, their gender but DO KNOW they are graduating this school year. With that information, the quilts will need to be gender-neutral colors/designs. Our guild will help sponsor a Class of 2022 High School Senior by providing 8 quilt & pillowcase gifts.
