Common Threads Quilt Guild supports the following organizations by supplying quilts to the following organizations:

Bigger than ever Summer Sewing for kids at Boys & Girls Club of Cooke County is back. The sewing program was so popular, the past two years the BGC has purchased more sewing machines and moved the class to a bigger room. The beginner project will also be a bigger quilt (with less sewing).  Sewing 101 for first-time machine sewers and Sewing 201 for kids that know how to use a sewing machine are planned.   A four-day week, Monday through Thursday, 9:00-12:00 is planned for June 12-15, June 19-22, and June 26-29 provided we have volunteers.  We need enough volunteers to staff 2-3 students per teacher. The more helpers the better, but this is the child's project, and the goal is to have FUN.  A Sign-up sheet will be available at the guild meeting and soon on the Gainesville Common Threads member web page.  So, look at your schedule for June and pick days you can have fun with a beginning sewer. If you have questions, feel free to call Margaret Lopez. Abigails Arms, a Cook County Family Crisis Center.  The center’s mission is to create a safe future by empowering families and change in the community through education and awareness.  The center provides an emergency hotline, therapy/case management, emergency shelter, and child advocacy for families in need.

Cook County Adoption Day.  Guild members provide quilts for children on their special day of adoption.  Quilts are also provided during the year to children who are being adopted from Foster Care.  (This is in conjunction with CPS Children Protective Services and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children).

Caring quits or 911 quilts are provided to families who have lost their homes to fire or other disasters.

Medal of Honor Quilts- given to Military Medal of Honor Recipients in gratitude for those who have served their country.

Day1 Bags - This year marks the 3rd annual "Adopt a 2022 High School Senior from Foster Care" campaign in Texas.  Day1 Bags will honor and gift a hand-made twin-size quilt set (blanket and pillowcase) made for each CPS foster youth graduating this Class of 2022.  For Texas, we have 622 seniors graduating. Due to privacy issues mandated by CPS, we do not know what county they live in, their names, their gender but DO KNOW they are graduating this school year. With that information, the quilts will need to be gender-neutral colors/designs. Our guild will help sponsor a Class of 2022 High School Senior by providing 8 quilt & pillowcase gifts.
